2013 was the bicentenary of Verdi and Wagner’s birth and I was commissioned a memorial piece which had to be an epitome of both authors’ music. On my own initiative, I added the music of an almost unknown composer, Alkan, who was born in 1813, too. I composed a fantasia featuring a reworked Tristan and Isolde introduction, followed by two overlapping themes from La Traviata prelude and Tannhäuser ouverture with my own fiorituras. The piece is then composed of a succession of virtuoso passages and other themes from the three authors’ works. The result is a beautiful composition of transcendental rendition.
